Laurie’s beautiful, evocative watercolors, in perfect period style, captivate
young and old alike. Polar, in his sailor jacket, seen traveling with his
companion Douglas in various countries, has become a popular and lovable
character with millions of readers around the world. In the New York Times Book Review (Nov.14,
2005), Laurie’s illustrations for African Princess: The Amazing Lives of
Africa’s Royal Women were described as “stunning.” These oil
portraits help to bring the biographies of some of Africa’s royal women
